Growing up, the mystery of a woman's strength and the wonder of birth were both ignited for Rosie when she listened to birth stories -- mainly those recounted by her abuelitas, her grandmothers. The inspiring ingredients in these stories were the intimacy and comforts of midwife-assisted births at home, and descriptions of the amazing glory and miracle of birth they experienced. Some stories were turbulent, similar to one experienced by Rosie's mother and also, the story of one of her own children. Like the proverb - every cloud has a silver lining - child birth can overcome storm clouds; an unshakable truth she holds dear to her heart that gives essential value and meaning to the journey of becoming a mother.
While Rosie was raising her own children beginning 28 years ago, encouraging mothers and endorsing family has always delighted her. This delight continues to this day. And it has motivated her to continue to support women along their journeys to motherhood.
Paying witness to many births and to new mothers, Rosie has noticed a common pattern in the lack of support, encouragement, comfort and reassurance of the glory of childbirth, and the attention to MotherBaby during the sensitive early weeks of motherhood -- all of which a doula brings to the birthing and postpartum experience. She remains current and informed about evidence-based maternity care, the postpartum period, and breastfeeding while also reminding the woman and family of their own individual options as they author their own experience.
She is a birth and postpartum doula, a member of DONA International and a certified lactation counselor. Her art continues to develop and perfect through her studies with Tanya Wills, Debra Pascali-Bonaro, and Rina Crane.
As a proud Bronx resisdent, Rosie Hernandez assures her good-natured quality of being a wife, mother, and homemaker accents the strong existing qualities in the women she serves.
